In week 8 the year 5'6 syndicate went to Pioneer Pool for swimming lessons. We learnt how to be safe in the water. We made a whirl pool and a river, we all enjoyed it.  In the whirl pool we got span around and dragged under, that showed us how dangerous it could be in a river or sea, with heaps of currents running rapidly.

Zone Swimming News:

Last week on Thursday Finn, Anna, Corey and Gabriella attended the Zones.  (Lily also qualified but was unable to attend) Finn has made it through to the Canterburys later this term in Freestyle and Backstroke. Well done to all these little fishes, it quite an achievement getting to this stage.
Inquiry:

Over the last two weeks we have been designing Gap Fillers.  The students have come up with some really cool ideas and we hope to have these sorted by the end of term or early next term . So watch this space for photos and reports.
Swimming Lessons

We have all been enjoying the swimming lessons but are showing signs of tiredness.  There are three groups. The top group is in the lap pool pounding out the lengths developing style, strength and fitness.  The middle group is building their styles and working on length swimming with consistent breathing. The bottom group is working on their styles and learning how to breathe.
More photos to follow from our water safety days that we are having on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Here are some photos on our trip to town.
At the Pallet Pavillion.  Here we learned the criteria for creating a gap filler.

Field Trip:

A big thank you to the parent helpers who came on the trip to the museum and city centre on Thursday.  It was a real whirlwind trip and I'm sure we all gained something from it.  I was most impressed with the behaviour of all the class on such a pressure cooker history tour and art observation exercise. Hopefully all students gleaned a knowledge about our heritage, the gap filler concept and street art.  It's time to start thinking how you, the student, can pull all this information together, and think about what you would like to investigate and design as a gap filler.  This gap filler could be either for our school or a space in town.

Hi Class
Just a reminder, we have a field trip tomorrow, weather permitting.  Please remember to bring a drink bottle, hat, jacket, big lunch and wear good walking shoes and your uniforms.
